Slatyfork Section
The first 4.6-miles of the Elk River headwaters is a Catch & Release regulated wild trout fishery. Known as the Slatyfork Section for the small town near the confluence of the main tributaries, this piece of the Elk River is home to some of the finest wild trout fishing in the East for naturally reproducing brown, rainbow and brook trout. These are wary fish, very hatch-sensitive and easily spooked. Skill in both approach and presentation is required, but the diligent angler can be well rewarded with fish of trophy proportions.
